HP Envy x2 user reviews.

Reviews provided by end users typically gives you an better insight into the product experience and lets you evaluate whether it would suite your needs.

Here's a couple of reviews written by users who have purchased an Envy x2 that i have quickly gathered.

Hopefully, you might find it useful in your decision making when considering to purchase the Envy x2.

01 - John R. Reed wrote: Great Ultrabook
December 18, 2012.

Great Concept. It's a laptop when I want it to be and tablet when I need it to be. I have full access to all my windows applications and a growing table app marketplace to support the tablet environment.

About the hardware: Snappy performance, very light-weight. Expandable (Micro and standard Secure Digital card slots); 1 on the tablet and one on the base. Extremely long battery life (2 batteries). The screen resolution is very good and clear from a wide range of angles. Let's be clear, this is no retina display, but it is a high resolution In-Plane Switching panel.

The tablet is extremely light and comfortable in my hands. The volume and power buttons are easily accessible and in the right spots. The "detach" mechanism for the tablet and base is intuitive and easy thanks to the integrated guide magnets.

The Beats audio sounds great and requires no intervention.

Out of the box:
Out of the box the unit was charged and ready for use. Windows 8 setup was quick and easy, however there were many updates that needed to be downloaded for the OS and pre-installed apps.

Minor issue:
Camera- I'd like to see better camera/video apps
Metro Interface- Some things still seem to work better with a keyboard/mouse rather than a touch interface. We will have to see how that comes along.

02 - By Nicholas R wrote: Incredible PC, Glad I waited for it to come out.
December 18, 2012.

I pre-ordered the HP Envy X2 from HP Direct. I have purchased lot of DM4's for most of our sales staff and been happy with the quality, performance and price. I was concerned about the crazy things going on at HP lately. I wanted an ultrabook for travel but I didn't like the early versions that HP had come out with. I was researching the Asus and Lenovo but nothing ever struck me to buy. Then, I read about the upcoming X2 Hybrid. This thing is everything I wanted: small, fantastic battery life, snappy performance, and touch screen. It came in earlier than expected so I was able to take it with me on a business trip. It's good that it did, because I had time on the plane to learn how to navigate in Windows 8. I highly recommend using the "Getting Started" tutorial and the "Windows 8 Cheats Keys" Apps. It got me up to speed and now I see where Microsoft was headed with this. Back to the Envy, this is by far the nicest product I have every purchased from HP. It is truly incredible. The construction is beautiful, and it doesn't even get hot on your lap. AGAIN, the battery life is INSANE because you get a battery in the tablet and the base. In the first day, I literally had 4 different people ask about it when they would see me use the touch screen on a laptop. It was hilarious when I would show how the screen detaches into a tablet, lots of WOW and OOOH! I used it for an entire 3 hour flight and only ate up 15% of the total battery. You do the math ... that is awesome.

Regardless of just the cool factor, this thing is a great multifunctional tool. I have all the features of an iPad, but the power of a business PC. Most of the apps I use like Evernote, Netflix, Skype, Shazam, Youtube, Facebook etc are already in the App Store. One bummer is that I'd really like to have my banking App too. I'm sure the number of apps will grow rapidly. I loaded MS Office and even a CAD reader to view 3D renderings. It works flawlessly.

Any review that doesn't glow about this thing must be a bipolar Apple/Mac user.

03 - CHAD ZINK wrote: Great solution for school & work
December 18, 2012

I needed a new notebook for school, I waited for this and suffered thru my last semester without a good notebook. It was totally worth the wait. This is the notebook/tablet I have wanted for at least 2 years.

This has the battery power, the features, and a solid build for school and work. It is portable enough to toss in my backpack for school and powerful enough to get work done while traveling.

It did not come with a stylus pen, so I'll need to figure out what pen to get for this.

04 - Loccy wrote: HP Envy X2 owners' discussion
December 24, 2012

So what with HP and Samsung being the only vendors to get their hybrid Intel device onto the (UK) market for Xmas I was a bit surprised not to find active discussion about the Envy X2 on here. I saw in another thread an X2 owner being told to create an owner's thread - he didn't, so I will in the absence of a dedicated forum.

Let me get the ball rolling by saying if your thing is pen based input the X2 is not for you - yet. My use case is simpler. Hybrids appeal to me because I've always wanted the elusive "one device to rule them all". The Asus Transformer Prime, physically, was perfect but Android is laughable for genuine productivity apps, plus I also do Java dev work. I want to be able to attach or flip out a keyboard to do work, then hoick the keyboard off and kick back with a video or some mindless Web browsing.

So for my use case, the X2 is perfect. I briefly had a Samsung Ativ 700T with an i5. Battery life was pitiful, the thing was built like a brick with air vents you could use to dry your hands on, the keyboard dock had no battery, and the whole ensemble felt cheap. Even the extra power of the i5 didn't really do me any favours. There doesn't seem to be any real noticeable difference when building my app, and the X2 happily runs a Tomcat or Glassfish server without undue distress.

I even find myself quite liking Windows 8. It fits my use case, with distinct modes for what I call "work" and "play" - ie desktop and Metro.

So, overall - very happy, although I appreciate that others' needs may be very different from mine.

JANUARY 7, 2013

We have had many years of gadgets ranging from Apple’s iPad to the latest onslaught of devices using Google’s Android OS. None of these have ever given me the capability of being fully functional on a personal and business level. HP, you have truly come up with the best tool that enables me to do both on one machine that is ULTRA portable, powerful, full use of MS Office 2010 and has a really long battery life.
AWESOME is the only way I can describe it!

X2Awesome wrote: “X2 - 2 times the fun!”
JANUARY 3, 2013

The Envy X2 is a joy to play around with. It has all the entertainment features I could want, and is also compatible with everything I would run on my old PC. The user interface of Windows 8 rivals competitors (and I own competitor's products), and the sleek design of the Envy X2 catches the eye. Not only is it a beautiful design, but the keyboard hinge works with ease and I can go from hardcore typing of emails to browsing facebook tablet-style in a second.

Anonymous wrote: "HP ENvey X2 - Atom Powered”
JANUARY 2, 2013

The concept is great. The best of both a Windows 8 machine and an RT tablet in a small form factor. Unfortunately this Atom processor device does not seem to have the power to really pull this off. Personally I would have preferred additional performance to extended battery life. By comparison my iPhone 5 has a faster processor.
Don't buy this device if you are looking for a primary work centered computing platform. If you understand and are OK with this limitation, the design is slick and "fit & finish" excellent.

Vgoenvy wrote: "Great size/weight"
Decemeber 29, 2012

I like the size and weight of this lap top, the removable screen is a great idea. However - after one week screen is already having issues. When I. was watching a movie the screen and computer crashed every hour. There is a blue vertical line running the length of the screen. The touch screen is misaligned. : ( and not very unresponsive to touch. I have small finger and a light touch it will take numerous attempts to get screen to respond. ; (. Overall reliability of this lap is very questionable.

Gilonmv wrote: "Excellent design"
Decemeber 28, 2012

So far we are very happy with the design and function of this system. I am very impressed with the responsiveness given the processor and the 2 gb of memory. The new Windows 8 features are addictive and we learned them very quickly. Only down side so far is that it freezes up at least twice a day and needs to be rebooted. Hope they work out the bugs as we are not running much other than a few things in desktop mode like itunes, norton antivirus. 90 percent use is in windows 8 apps from the store.

Elknimrod wrote: "Could be better"
Decemeber 28, 2012

Light leaks around the screen when the screen is dark, as though it isn't fastened well on the right side, battery 2 shows as not installed- though I thought that battery 2 was in the keyboard, Win 8 freezes up more than it should which then needs a restart.
Overall it's a decent machine for the money, need to get on those quality control issues.

HP Envy x2 11-g00 introduction

Your ideal Tablet and ultrabook combination is here. Packaged in a ultra slim solid all aluminum constuction. HP calls this the hybrid PC.

imageIt provides the best of both world. It is a tablet when you need ultra mobility and it’s a notebook when you need to do more serious work.

With this device, you can do away with the need to work with two separate devices and the hassle of having your data in two different location.

Check out the product promo video from HP.

The HP Envy X2 is based on the latest Intel Atom family of processor  SOC(System On Chip) x86 platform. In comes with Windows 8 operating system. With Windows 8, you continue to be able to run most of your existing application that you have on your windows 7 notebook or PC on this device.
The screen is 11.6 inch in size. It uses a IPS(In-Plane Switching) technology screen and a capacitive touch interface.

There is a separate battery in each of the devices. With this it gives you a longer battery life. When the tablet is attached to the base, it will switch to using the power from the base. In doing so, the battery power in the tablet in conserved.

It has standard SD card slot in the base unit(supports up to SDxC cards) and a microSD card slot on the table. It comes with Beats Audio and dual speakers built into the tablet. It also comes with 2 audio ports, one on the tablet and one on the base. Two usb ports and one Full HDMI port.
If you would like to output video onto your monitor, you might need to get a adapter that converts the HDMI connection to DVI-D.

imageThe touchpad on the base unit mimics the same touch motion and usability as on the screen itself.  This is helpful if you do not want to reach out on to the screen while typing on the base.
Here is a list of the kind of touch gesture that can be performed on the touch pad.

In this video below, HP had asked Michael Daube, executive director at CITTA, to try out the HP ENVY x2 running Windows 8. Have a look at what happens when you combine the power of a notebook and the freedom of a tablet in the field.

Besides being a touch screen device, you can attach an external usb mouse if you prefer while working on a desk.
